The 115th US Open is in the books and having covered our National Championship for over 20 years, I must admit, it was one of the most bizarre and strange weeks I have seen in championship golf…especially the ending. While I’m very happy that a deserving Jordan Spieth has now won the first two legs of the Grand Slam, at the same time, I feel absolutely terrible for Dustin Johnson. However knowing Dustin the way I do, I don’t think a three-putt on the 72nd hole to lose the US Open will have a long term effect. Dustin is a very resilient guy and so very talented. I expect him to contend at THE OPEN at St.Andrews and if he doesn’t win there, he is my odds on favorite to redeem himself for his 2010 rules gaffe at Whistling Straights and win the PGA Championship.
As for Chambers Bay, say what you want about the course and the course set-up…and certainly the players had a lot to say about it…it produced a great leaderboard all week and a very worthy championship. Sure there was plenty of grousing from the players and the spectators, but the fact is, this was one of the most entertaining US Opens we have seen in a long time.
