We admit that the majority of travelers coming to Maui are lured by the #1 Island in the world… the warm tropical climate … and the desire to chill in the sun, sand and surf. BUT the Pacific Ocean is not the only draw. The next biggest attraction compared to the beautiful blue Pacific with its winter whale visitors is the big and bold Haleakala. Haleakala is a dormant volcano and Maui’s highest peak rising 10,023 feet above sea level. You can’t miss Haleakala as it comprises 75% of the island and its graceful slopes can be seen from just about any point on Maui. Haleakala National Park is an unexpected and wonderful experience… it’s a long drive to the summit but well worth the early wake up call to see sunrise atop Haleakala. If you are not into the sunrise idea there are numerous hiking trails that offer solitude and scenic vistas and perhaps just as spectacular are the sunsets and the bright starry nights.
On Maui there is a wealth of unique adventures off the beaten path.
