The theme of the 75th Anniversary of the December 7th, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor fosters reflection, remembrance and understanding. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and six other military bases on Oahu precipitated America’s entry into World War II. This anniversary is an opportunity to honor the sacrifice of America’s “Greatest Generation” both civilian and military. The events of December 7th, 1941 sparked our nations can-do attitude, resourcefulness and an unmatched commitment to the defense of freedom. We can learn from the past. The commemoration will also celebrate the 71 years of peace between the U.S. and Japan. You can experience a wealth of history at Pearl Harbor now by visiting the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the Pacific Aviation Museum, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and the WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument. From December 1 – 11, 2016 anniversary events will be held at Pearl Harbor and around Oahu to memorialize “the date which will live in infamy”.
