- My new tower at 17, where I called the action the last two days is my favorite of the year…there is no arena in golf like 16 & 17 at the TPC Sawgrass.
- Co-leader Kevin Na has quietly become the 22nd ranked player in the world…pretty remarkable given that it was only a few years ago here at The Players, that he actually had the yips trying to get the club away from the ball to begin his swing.
- Jordan Spieth, after a whirlwind, almost nonstop month of post Masters fanfare and appearance obligations (along with having lots of fun) looks to me like he has run out of gas. This missed cut could be a combination of …blessing in disguise to get some rest …and a kick in the rear to get his game back in the shape it was a month ago for his next start.
- People talk about Matt Kuchar, Rory Mcilroy, Steve Stricker and a handful of others as the nicest guys in golf… I’m going to add co-leader Jerry Kelly to that list.
- The Players Championship is not and will never be the “5th major.” What it is, is one of the greatest golf tournaments on this planet and all involved should recognize that and be happy with its unique position in the game.
- Even though he is four shots behind with 36 holes to go Rory McIlroy is still my favorite to win. Wouldn’t it be nice though, to see Rickie Fowler, snag a big title like this one? I think he is motivated after, earlier this week, being named one of the most overrated players in the game in an anonymous players poll.
More after the final round…
