When I headed to The Honda Classic back at the end of Febuary, I knew Jordan Spieth was going to be one of the young American players to keep my eye on throughout the Florida Swing, the two Texas tournaments, and The Masters, a tournament that he nearly won last year as a rookie. Over these past six weeks, I’ve been very fortunate to spend some time with Jordan and gotten to know him better, and I’ve also gotten to watch him play a lot of golf….a lot of very good golf. During that run, he has finished 1st, 2nd and 2nd in his last three events. And tonight, Jordan sleeps on an incredible 5 stroke lead, at the halfway point of The Masters.
Let’s face it, at this point, The Masters is now Jordan Spieth’s to win….or lose. So what exactly have I learned about Jordan during our time together the past month and a half? Two things:
- At the a tender age of 21, he is a fine young man, that clearly has had a wonderful up bringing by his parents. And he is mature away from the course…far beyond his years.
- And when it comes to golf, Jordan Spieth is really good…much better than I thought he was just a couple of months ago.
If Jordan Spieth goes on to win this Masters…which I believe he will, he will become the #2 player in the world…the youngest ever to achieve that lofty status. And then, it will, just be a matter of time, before he becomes recognized as the best player on this planet.
